In Canada, third party donation (egg, sperm, embryo, surrogacy) must be “altruistic”.
In Canada, third party donors (egg, sperm, embryo, surrogacy) cannot be paid for their donation. However, they can be compensated for any expenses that are incurred during the donation process, such as wages lost for time off work, travel expenses, medical expenses, etc. In other countries, policies and laws on egg donation differ. For example, in the United States, donors can be paid for their donation (e.g., a surrogate could be paid $20,000 plus expenses to carry a child for an intended parent or parents).
