The silent enemy: How sexually transmitted infections can affect your fertility
A recent article suggests that the rates of Chlamydia – the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) – are on the rise in some parts of the world. If caught early, Chlamydia and other STI’s can usually easily be treated with antibiotics, The problem is that up to 70% of women don’t even know that they have an infection because they don’t have noticeable symptoms – so they don’t get treatment. If left untreated, STIs can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and fertility problems. Use of condoms during sex significantly reduces the risk of STIs. If you think you may have been exposed to an STI, go to a clinic or see your doctor as soon as possible.
