Hot tubs and saunas can affect a man’s fertility.
Hot tubs, saunas, and whirlpool baths increase the temperature in a man’s testicles which can affect the production and quality of his sperm. Generally, this effect is only temporary. However, if you and your partner are trying to get pregnant, it’s likely better to avoid hot tubs and saunas. Apparently hot showers don’t have the same problematic effect since your testes aren’t submerged in hot water.
High body temperatures from illness and fevers can also affect sperm. The negative effects on sperm production are often longer lasting – up to 2-3 months – following an illness.
