Readiness
Leap of Faith
I know I want to have kids and I think I’m ready, but instead of being excited I’m terrified to go off the pill. Is this normal?
It’s completely normal to feel anxious or even terrified to go off the pill, park your diaphragm in the cupboard, or put the condoms away. Women in particular, spend so much of our lives trying to prevent pregnancy. So it can be a really big shift from this mindset, to trying to actually get pregnant.
You are bound to feel nervous about the possibility of becoming a parent. It’s a huge responsibility and big adjustment. It is also one of the only irrevocable decisions most of us make in our lives. Until you become a parent it is impossible to be 100% certain that you’re going to be up for the challenges of this new role and all that becoming a parent means in terms of changes in your life and relationships. So a certain amount of anxiety is entirely normal.
